Hang in there while we get back on track
Does your task management feel like herding cats?
You’re a successful person. You’re a busy person. You have loads of clients, projects, side-projects. A million things on the go at work and at home. You need a tool that gives you everything you need to keep track of what needs doing.
Work with your brain
A better workflow
Pick from your pool of available tasks, do what you are most in the mood for right now. Celebrate when you complete a task, get help choosing when things are overwhelming.
- Target your available tasks.
- Tasks that you can't do right now are automatically hidden from your main list, so you can focus on the tasks you can actually make progress on right now rather than being overwhelmed by all your future responsibilities too.
- Celebrate your wins.
- Every time you complete a task, get a little burst of tiny cats to help you keep going onto the next one.
- Get help when everything's on fire.
- When choosing your next task is too much, get a reminder to do the self-care you need, then support choosing a task that you're up for working on right now away from the stress of your main list.
Everything you need
All-in-one platform
Everything you need to manage your tasks, for different clients and on different products. Remember and share what you did and when.
- Separate start and due dates
- Don't see things you can't action yet, but feel safe knowing they will pop into your list as soon as you can. No more hacking due dates to remind you to start something.
- Manage dependencies between tasks
- When you can't start a task until you've finished some others, it won't clutter your list until those blockers are completed.
- Link your tasks to products and clients
- If your tasks are related to different things you produce, or different people you work for. Focus your efforts on the right things.
- Stay on track
- Persistent banner to remind you what task you said you're doing right now, and how long you've been at it.
- Notes on everything
- Add notes to your tasks, clients and products. Store important links, track your progress, record your thinking.
- Optionally track your time
- Record how much time you've spent on each task and when you worked on it, if that data is useful in your workflow.
- Remember what you've achieved
- You probably got a lot done this week, but forgot most of what it was. View and share detailed reports of what tasks you touched and what you did.
- Use across all platforms
- Herding Cats is web-based, but can be installed like an app from your browser on any device. See our docs for how to do it.

Frequently asked questions
Have a different question and can’t find the answer you’re looking for? Reach out to our support team by sending us an email and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
- Why don't you offer a monthly plan?
- Because the monthly price would be really low, we'd lose a really big proportion of what you paid each month in fees to our payment processor, Stripe, because we get charged a fee per transaction. Need help with a different billing plan? Get in touch and we'll try our best.
- Who is behind Herding Cats?
- Caro, primary developer at Little Black Cat Software, designs, builds and runs Herding Cats, with help from her real-life cat, Meatballs. It was started as her personal task manager, after failing to find any existing tools to fit her specific needs as a freelancer with altogether too many things on the go.
- I really like your colour scheme, can I use it for other things?
- The colour schemes are based on the wonderful Catppuccin themes, an MIT-licensed (free and open source) set of palettes and application themes originally used in code editors.
